Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

Even though the holiday is almost over, it’s never to late to experiment with a new romantic look to spice up the last of your Valentine’s parties, family get-togethers, and most importantly, that fun date you have coming up!

This is a look that I did on a model recently to demonstrate a great way to get your dramatic romance-glam on.

To start, I used an It Cosmetics Live.Laugh.Love. Vitality Face Disc. This is an awesome product because it includes a highlighter, blush, and bronzer, essential for any look. This product also includes a myriad of naturally age-defying ingredients which compliment skin of any age, such as green tea, acai, and Vitamins A, C, and E. Summer or winter, this product is awesome for any occasion.

In order to keep the dewiness, I also used It Cosmetics Hello Light Creme Radiance Illuminator. This is a great way to hydrate and condition skin. It gives off a healthy glow, without settling or looking cakey.

Finish off the look with a Russian Red Mac lipstick. This will give the look that spicy, winter-y pop without looking too aged.

One last touch to the T-zone with this Bye Bye Pores Poreless Finishing Powder. The translucent formula will keep everything in place, without giving off too much shine, so you can dance the night away, footloose and fancy free!

Have an excellent time ringing in the new year with your friends, family, and loved ones! Let me know if you have your own take on this holiday look!

Bronze Voyage!

Well, if you haven’t already noticed, SUMMER IS HERE! Time for swimming in the sunshine and sipping iced tea, barbecues, lounging in flip-flops and tanks, and most of all, finally getting to sport all that beautiful BRONZER that’s been dying to see the light of a summer day!

Seeing as it’s already the time shine for this product, we at Surjaya Artistry thought it would be a perfect time to give a few tips about bronzer.

Even though summer is the time of year that everyone typically likes to tan naturally, the harsh rays of the sun are actually quite damaging to skin, especially on your face.  This is why it is imperative to always wear a good sunscreen before spending a lot of time out in the sun. Skin that is overexposed to the UV rays of the sun, over time, tends to age faster and can become dried out and spotted. Applying a quality bronzer to your face creates the illusion of an nicely tanned face without the dangerous side effects of a real tan.

Since there is a myriad of different bronzers out there, it can be easy to be overwhelmed when looking for a bronzer that best suits you. Here’s a few products that we love at Surjaya Artistry, and hope you will too!

One of our favorite bronzers comes from Too Faced, a highly reputable company whose bronzing products we adore! Their best-selling “Sun Bunny Natural Bronzer” is a summertime MUST.  It has a lovely two-toned shading to it, so it will work for virtually any skin type.

Another favorite bronzer product comes from Mac, and is called “Refined Gold” bronzing powder. Since it is in powder form, the bronzer goes on subtly but effectively. It’s lightness and versatility is especially excellent. We adore this product.

Our third bronzer suggestion comes from Shu Uemura. Like the Mac product above, this is a matte bronzer, and goes on lightly, like a powder.  The name of this particular product is Duocolor Cheek Blush in Fresh Apricot, and is a great addition for any makeup ensemble.

For further bronzing results, Surjaya Artistry recommends using a tinted moisturizer that can enhance the sun-kissed effect of your skin, as well as using a BB cream, which can also increase the look of your bronzer.

We hope these tips have been helpful to you! Let us know what you think of these bronzers and others!

With love,

Surjaya Artistry

Fall Look Series…

OCTOBER, such an exciting month full of transition, and transformation.

Our favorites about this month: seasonal coffee flavors, candles, boots, scarves, hats, cuddle-worthy weather, Halloween, scary movies, rainy days, and PUMPKINS! Who doesn’t love carving pumpkins, and scampering around pumpkin patches?! Not to mention baking homemade pumpkin bread.

Don’t let the pumpkin fun end there! If there’s ever a month to get away with sporting some hot orange colors, now is the time! We like to wear our favorite shades of orange all the way through Thanksgiving.

Here are some pump-tastic orange fall look ideas:

Punchdrunk, by Urban Decay. The best orange lipstick you’ll find! Its so moisturizing and so luxurious. Easy to apply in it’s pencil form. It’s a win-win-win. Wear it with confidence!

Cha-Cha Tint, by Benefit Cosmetics. This is a lip and cheek stain, that is definitely down to commit all day! Once you apply this stain, you won’t have to worry about it-it really stays on. One drop on each cheek does the trick.

Pretty In Amber eyeshadow trio, by It Cosmetics. This is an amber-inspired eyeshadow trio that is gorgeous! It has a highlight, contour, and a beautifully medium shade of the perfect honey-orange eyeshadow. This is a great idea for a more subtle October look, if you’re not ready to jump on the orange-lip train just yet.

A Roll In the Hague, OPI. The perfect pop of orange nail lacquer! Wear it on all nails, or on just a few as an accent. You’ll love your Octobery nails either way.

Since October is a transformation month, who knows what magic lies behind something as simple as a pumpkin. Happy October, everyone!

Don’t you MATTE me baby?

So to kick off our Fall Look Series, we’re starting with a breathtaking new trend that we LOVE!

Remember the days of the naked eye and the bright lip? We all love this look, but there is another look that is ready to win you over. Are you ready? Dark, neutral, matte colors.

I know what you’re thinking, “is this too much like the 90’s?”

Believe it or not, the 90’s fashion is amongst us. So get ready to wear those flannel shirts, combat boots, chunky metallic bracelets, and some killer new eyeshadow techniques to pull it all together.

If dark eyeshadow is already your thing, it’s time to mix it up. Most of us are pretty attached to the concept of the smokey eye and the black eyeshadow. Think outside of the box this fall with a deep eggplant shade or a rich chocolatey brown color.

Start off with a nude matte color, like a light grey or a taupe, and blend it from lash line to crease. Then, pick out your dark matte color and place it in the crease and along the lash line only on the outer corners. Depending on how dark the shade is, you could probably get away with spreading it along the whole lash line. Start on the outer corners, and work your way in. Next, instead of reaching for that eyeliner pencil, take that dark color and smudge lightly along the bottom lash line.

Here are some of our favorite dark neutral matte colors that are a must have:

Plumage, by M.A.C

Shadowy, by M.A.C

 Dark Horse, by Urban Decay

Smokin’ Eyes kit, by Benefit Cosmetics (this one has a collection of both matte and shimmer, for those of you that can’t shake the shimmer just yet)

Betrayal, by NIX

Charcoal, by Bobbi Brown

Blonde, by Bobbi Brown

These are just a few! Try them on, play with your new re-invented 90’s makeup look, put that Nirvana CD in your car, and have a fashionable day!

What is your favorite fall dark neutral matte shade? Let us know in the comments.

Aromatherapy and sanitation in one step.

Dry hands? painful.
Dirty hands? gross.

It seems that hand sanitizer, while extremely useful for killing all of those germs, is so drying on the skin, you’re trading in one problem for another. However, there are some products out there that gently get the job done-and smell delightful while doing it.

Our favorite it Jao Hand Refresher. This product has alcohol to kill germs that comes from grapes. Yes, these guys…

They’ve even added other helpful ingredients such as lavender, sage, tea tree oil, and eucalyptus to not only aid in sanitation, but keep your skin in good shape.

Just think of this upscale sanitizer as a daily at-work-aromatherapy treat. You won’t be sorry. The germs however, they might be sorry.

Treat Your Hair Right.

Happy Saturday!

So usually we blog about skin care and makeup tips, but we don’t want to neglect your hair. Everyone knows its super important to treat your hair right- with masks, conditioner, oil, blah blah blah.

Surjaya’s latest addition is Redken’s Butter Treatment. Its a smoothing mask that you rinse out in the shower and it would basically just replace your conditioner once or twice a week (or in Surjaya’s case every day).  This mask truly helps hair in need of some moisture, or ultra frizzy hair. Some of us have so much hair and frizz we don’t know what to do with it.

Just apply it to your hair after shampooing, and rinse it out only at the very last minute. When you get out of the shower of course follow up with a leave in conditioner (our favorite is 12 benefits) and/or some hair oil and your hair will be looking so smooth and healthy you may not recognize yourself.

For those of you with fine or limp hair, use Redken’s All Soft in place of Butter Treatment. It is lighter in weight and your hair won’t be weighed down.

Let us know in the comments how it works out for you! We are here to help with any questions about your hair or skin!

Perfected Brows

•March 18, 2012 • Leave a Comment

Anyone out there experiencing some brow drama? Stuck in a rut of the same old powder or pencil, wondering if you’ve picked the right color? Ponder no further, we have found a pencil that you will love, and so will your friends.

It Cosmetics sent us some truly amazing products, which of course are in use at PBS SoCal, but our absolute favorite is the Universal Brow Pencil. Yes, universal, meaning this applies to all of you!

This silky pencil is so easy to apply, I’m surprised there are brows in the world that haven’t found this yet. Just gently glide it over your brow, using short, light-handed strokes. Almost immediately you’ll be done and left with brows that turn heads, guaranteed to raise your confidence level a few notches.
